Hasner popular, Haridopolos in trouble with local grassroots organizations

Results of a straw poll recently conducted by the Republican Liberty Caucus of Central East Florida (RLCCEF) showed a tight race for U.S. Senate between Adam Hasner and Mike McCalister.  Local candidate and current Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos fared the worst in the poll.

The poll, taken between June 2 and June 6, consisted of four questions and was posed to members of local grassroots political organizations including the RLCCEF, Space Coast Patriots, and Brevard 912.  The questions were simply, "Who would you most like to be U.S. Senator in 2012?" and "Who would you least like to be U.S. Senator in 2012?".  The same two questions were also asked with regard to U.S. President.

In the senatorial results, most respondents most wanted Hasner to be the candidate, receiving 40% of the votes, with closest competitor McCalister garnering 27%.  Haridopolos received only 6% of the votes, finishing behind both former Senate appointee George LeMieux and the "undecided" category, both receiving 13%.

On the other side of the question, not surprisingly, Haridopolos also fared the worst as the candidate that respondents would least like to see as their U.S. Senator, receiving 71% of that vote. Showing a reluctance to elect political insiders, George LeMieux was the next least favorite with 8%.  Hasner and McCalister again proved to be grassroots favorites both receiving only one vote as being the least favorite candidate.

Responses to the same questions for U.S. President were much more varied due to the sheer number of candidates, or potential candidates, in the race.  TEA Party favorites Michelle Bachmann and Sarah Palin stood out amongst the field, but both just narrowly besting the undecided vote.  Of the same field, establishment candidates Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich were the least liked by those taking part in the poll.
